The ACON Community Grant Program (ACGP) is a collaborative public-private endeavor with the City of Aiken and the Aiken Council of Neighborhoods. The request to initiate and fund the program was made and approved by the Aiken City Council at a regular scheduled meeting.
The City Council provided one-time funding for the program of $75,000 from the Plutonium funds received from the U.S. Department of Energy. The ACGP will primarily address the needs in low to moderate income neighborhoods in the areas considered North Aiken. The below is the list of examples presented to City Council where ACGP will consider for funding based on the information presented. This list is not all inclusive of assistance that could be provided. Maximum funding per request will usually not exceed $3,000.
- Crime Watch education and signage such as “Neighborhood Watch.”
- Speed Humps in areas that are used as cut throughs and speeding traffic.
- Assist seniors with beautification and small repairs of owner-occupied homes
- Emergency fund to help the elderly with items such as (food, clothing, etc….)
- Facilitate educating the elderly on services available in Aiken.
- Signage such as (Neighbor Name, and Children Playing, etc….)
- Informational and educational programs in neighborhoods.
The funds will be held by the City of Aiken and disbursed as requested by ACON. The process to obtain funds requires completing the application ACON Grant Application that provides the scope and justification/need.
